Along with the sink and the hob the refrigerator is one of the most important appliances in the kitchen. Nobody can be without one but which refrigerator or fridge-freezer should it be?
Refrigerator/freezer combinations come in three varieties:
1 With the freezer on the top, 2 With the freezer on the bottom, 3 With the refrigerator and freezer in a side-by-side configuration.
There are also ice makers, wine coolers, beer dispensers, and refrigerator accessories available.
As a general rule you should start with at least 12 cubic feet of refrigerator and freezer space for the first two persons in the family and then add 2 cubic feet for each additional person. Remember to check the energy on refrigerators to see what the operating costs are likely to be.
Your choice may not depend not only on your needs. The refrigerator has become a style icon with retro models in funky colours through to the enormous American style double-door ice makers that so often find their way into kitchens that are too small for them.
You probably already know what you want but do shop around for the best deal you can get on the type you are looking for.
